For the last month, I’ve been creating content about what I thought that my readers may like to see. What recipes will I share? What experiences that shaped my life do I want to expose? What are my favorite makeup looks?
Quick Question: Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night and everything that you planned just seemed….. wrong? Well, that’s what happened. Trust me, we’ll get to the good stuff but before we do I decided that my very first blog post should address one simple question “Who am I?”
You’d think that I’d be able to go on and on about who I am, what I like, and…. For me, this is one of the hardest questions to answer.
I could give you the scripted answer. One that has been pricked, prodded, and polished so much that I could recite it in my sleep.
My name is Kenya Hooker. I am a graduated from the illustrious Hampton University with a BS in Strategic Communications and minor in Marketing. I currently work as a Communications Coordinator for a television network and I am starting my own business, The Hooked Agency; a full-service agency dedicated to help millennials and start ups cultivate their brand image, secure publicity, and market to the masses (shameless plug.)
Did you like it? It’s a nice elevator speech, but the question wasn’t what I am but who I am? What makes Kenya happy? What makes Kenya tick? I can tell you everything that I don’t like but when I try to formulate the words to tell you what I do, I come up blank.
Over the course of the last few years, I lost the answer. It takes me a while to come up with a list of hobbies.
What do I do in my leisure time? Binge watch shows, eat, and sleep.
I am on a journey of self-discovery. That is what this blog is all about. I have strategically laid out my ten year plan, carefully crafted my brand as a young professional, and ….. But somewhere in the process, I forgot who I am away from business.
So a year from now, on the anniversary of my first blog post, I will reattempt this question.
In short, “Who am I?”
I don’t know. I guess we have a year to find out. For right now, I am Kluelessly Kenya. I guess we’ll both have to wait and see.
